REGULATION (EEC) No 853 /70 OF THE COUNCIL of 12 May 1970

amending Regulation No 1009/67/EEC on the common organisation of the market in sugar

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES, system and a uniform system of trade with third countries with effect from 1 July 1968 ; whereas the system of trade with third countries includes a system of levies ; Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community, and in particular Article 43 thereof ; "Whereas the preferential treatment accorded by the Netherlands to sugar from Surinam should be mentioned in the provisions of Regulation No Having regard to the proposal from the Commission ; 1009/67/EEC ; whereas it is therefore necessary to amend that Regulation to allow the Netherlands to import, free of levy, a certain quantity of sugar Having regard to the Opinion of the European originating in and coming from Surinam ; whereas Parliament1 ; this quantity should be limited to a maximum of 4000 metric tons per marketing year ;

Having regard to the Opinion of the Economic and Social Committee ; Whereas these arrangements must be applied from the same date as Regulation No 1009/67/EEC and should be limited to the period during which the provisions of Title III of that Regulation apply ; Whereas the Kingdom of the Netherlands, invoking the provisions of the Protocol on Goods originating in and coming from certain countries and enjoying special treatment when imported into a Member State, which is annexed to the Treaty, has for several years been according special' import treatment to a HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION : certain quantity of sugar from Surinam ;
