REGULATION (EEC) No 647/72 OF THE COUNCIL of 30 March 1972 fixing the target price for milk and the intervention prices for butter, skimmed milk powder and Grana padano and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese for the 1972/73 marketing year

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES , relationship between the target price for milk and the price of other agricultural products and in particular that of beef and veal, reflecting the proposed Having regard to the Treaty establishing the orientation of stock-breeding; European Economic Community, and in particular Article 43 thereof : Whereas, furthermore, when the target price is fixed the Community's endeavours to establish a long-term Having regard to Council Regulation (EEC) No balance between supply and demand on the milk market, taking into account external trade in milk 804/68 1 of 27 June 1968 on the common organization of the market in milk and milk products, as last and milk products, should be borne in mind ; amended by Regulation (EEC) No 141 1/71 ,2 and in particular Articles 3 (4) and 5 ( 1 ) thereof; Whereas the intervention prices for butter and skimmed milk powder are intended to contribute to Having regard to the proposal from the Commission ; the achievement of the target price for milk; whereas their level should be determined in the light both of the general situation of supply and demand on the Having regard to the Opinion of the European Community milk market and of the possibilities for Parliament; disposal of butter and skimmed milk powder on the Community and world markets ;

Whereas, when the target price for milk is fixed, account should be taken both of the objectives of the Whereas the intervention prices for Grana padano common agricultural policy and of the contribution and Parmigiano Reggiano cheeses must be fixed at which the Community desires to make to the levels which will give milk producers in areas of . the harmonious development of world trade; whereas the Community where such cheeses qualifying to bear objectives of the common agricultural policy are in the designation of origin, are produced the same long particular to ensure a reasonable standard of living term security as regards milk prices to producers as for the agricultural community, to ensure that that provided by the intervention measures in respect supplies are available and that they reach consumers of skimmed milk and butter; at reasonable prices;

Whereas in view of the market situation it appears Whereas, therefore, account should be taken of the necessary, for butter, to make an increase in two importance of milk to the Community's agricultural stages and whereas this leads to a stage by stage economy and consequently to farmers' incomes ; increase for Grana padano and Parmigiano Reggiano whereas, moreover, there must be a balanced cheeses also ;

HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION :

Article1

For the 1972/73 marketing year the target price for milk and the intervention prices for milk products shall be fixed as follows :

Units of account per 100 kg

from 1 April to from 14 September 15 September

( a) Target price for milk 11-77 11-77 (b ) Intervention price: Butter 180-00 186-00 Skimmed milk powder. 54-00 54-00 Grana padano cheese — from 30 to 60 days 142-35 145-65 — in lots of an average age of six months 168-55 171-00 Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, in lots of an average age of 6 months 182-95 185-40

'Lot' means one manufacturer's production during the period 1 April to 11 November iin a given year.

Article2

This Regulation shall enter into force on 1 April 1972. . '

This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States .
