REGULATION (EEC) No 987 / 73 OF THE COUNCIL of 9 April 1973 increasing the amount of the Community tariff quota for newsprint falling within subheading 48.01 A of the Common Customs Tariff for 1972

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN imported corresponding amounts of newsprint for COMMUNITIES, which they paid customs duties ; Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Whereas it therefore seems justifiable to increase, with Economic Community ; retroactive effect, the 1972 Community tariff quota for newsprint by an amount equivalent to that imported Whereas the Council, in Regulation (EEC) No in these exceptional circumstances ; 2776/71 ( 1) and Regulation (EEC) No 2742/72 (2), opened and allocated among the Member States a HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION : Community tariff quota for 1972 of a total of 1 161 000 metric tons of newsprint falling within Article 1 subheading 48 01 A of the Common Customs Tariff ; Whereas, on the basis of the supply situation of the The quota amount fixed in Article 1 of Regulation Community as regards newsprint, zero-duty Commu­ (EEC) No 2776/71 and increased pursuant to Article 1 nity tariff quotas are opened where it is established of Regulation (EEC) No 2742/72 shall be raised from 1 161 000 metric tons to 1 164 500 metric tons . that all supply possibilities on the internal market have been exhausted ; whereas the Council considered Article 2 it could meet the existing situation at the time it decided to increase the quota initially provided for The quota-shares allocated to the Member States in 1972 by 20 000 metric tons ; Article 2 of Regulation (EEC) No 2776/71 and Whereas, however, it became apparent that during the amended pursuant to Article 2 of Regulation (EEC) No ' 2742/72 shall be amended as follows : last few days of 1972 the supply requirements from outside the Community exceeded by an appreciable Benelux 281 500 metric tons amount the previous estimates, in particular in the case of the Benelux countries ; whereas importers were Article 3 unable to establish the exact size of the increase of the quota, decided on 19 December 1972 and published This Regulation shall enter into force on the day only on 28 December 1972, before the end of the following its publication in the Official Journal of period to which the quota applied, and therefore the European Communities.
