REGULATION (EEC) No 3458 /73 OF THE COUNCIL of 17 December 1973

on the increase in the Community tariff quota for newsprint falling within subheading No 48.01 A of the Common Customs Tariff for 1973

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES , whereas therefore it should be provided that only the Member States of the Community as originally Having regard to the Treaty establishing the constituted should use the tariff quotas and count European Economic Community, and in particular against their share products imported both from Article 28 thereof ; third countries and from the new Member States ; whereas the quota must reflect the conditions Having regard to the draft Regulation submitted by specified above, the Commission ;

HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION : Whereas by Council Regulation (EEC ) No 2738 /72 ( l ) the Council opened and allocated among the Member States a Community tariff quota of Article 1 1 160 000 metric tons of newsprint for 1973 , which quota comprises a conventional quota volume of The amount specified in Article 1 of Regulation 625 000 metric tons and an autonomous quota ( EEC ) No 2738 /72 is increased to 1 343 500 metric volume of 535 000 metric tons ; tons . Whereas, in view of current Community production Article 2 potential , the abovementioned ,1 160 000 metric ton quota does not suffice to cover Community import The shares allocated by Article 2 of Regulation requirements for newsprint from third countries ; (EEC ) No 2738 /72 to the following Member States whereas it is therefore desirable to increase the said shall be amended as follows : quota by an amount which may at present, in view of the estimates made by each of the Member States, be Germany 718 000 metric tons set at 183 500 metric tons ; whereas this amount, the Benelux 335 000 metric . tons result of a conservative estimate of the situation, does not however exclude the possibility of an adjustment France 280 000 metric tons during the tariff period ; Italy 10 500 metric tons Whereas in 1973 the new Member States do not have to make any movement towards alignment of the national tariffs with the Common Customs Tariff Article 3 as regards the product in question ; whereas the increase in a Community tariff quota thus involves This Regulation shall enter into force on the third no obligation for the new Member States to modify day following its publication in the Official Journal their customs tariffs as regards third countries ; of the European Communities.
